More than one hundred years ago, Chevy discovered the secret recipe to creating the perfect truck – one that would go down in automotive history, and that truck was called the One-Ton. If you are new to Chevy history, you might be a bit confused, thinking this is supposed to be about the Silverado and not the One-Ton. The One-Ton was quite different from the Silverado of today, but its inception started everything. Based on necessity, the One-Ton was designed to serve a specific purpose, but that design eventually evolved into what we are privileged to get behind the wheel of today. It was a long journey to get to where we are currently, but along the way, Chevy managed to fill the world with some pretty incredible trucks.

Important Advancements and Developments

One of the first important developments on the road to the Silverado came in the form of an enclosed cab. About ten years after the One-Ton became a part of history, the first enclosed cab truck came to fruition. The 1929 International Series AC Light Delivery began the move into including comforts and conveniences in a truck by providing a closed cab where this stuff could be centered. While the 1918 One-Ton was intended to serve a sole purpose, the 1929 was designed to serve a purpose but with some style and functionality thrown in.

A wider trim array allowed consumers to experiment with what worked best for their needs, which was also supported by a series of truck bed lengths and cab sizes.
